Lizard businesses in line for 'Rural Oscars'

Derek is delighted that two small businesses on the Lizard are in with a chance of picking up a ‘Rural Oscar’ at an awards ceremony recognising the best small businesses in the country.

Mawgan Stores and C & E Retallack Butchers in Lizard have both been named as regional finalists for the Countryside Alliance Awards after receiving some of the 18,000 nominations sent in across the country by customers.

“Stores like Mawgan Stores and C & E Retallack really are the heart of rural communities – people living on the Lizard are very fortunate in having such dedicated and welcoming businesses which go the extra mile on their doorstep,” he said.

“Reaching the regional finals is testament to the hard work and excellent service they give to their customers – I wish them both the very best of luck and encourage anyone in the area to visit these excellent stores.”

Last year, another local business – Coverack Stores – was highly commended.
