Years ago I took part in a Labour Government study measuring the contribution of the voluntary sector. I was reminded of this on Saturday when I must have met well over 200 volunteers. The day started at the Pirates Clubhouse for the West Cornwall League of Friends annual fete.

On Friday I had the great privilege of taking part in Mounts Bay Academy's mountain fundraising challenge. Over two days students, staff, parents and family climbed the school climbing wall to raise money for Community Action Nepal, following the devastation of the recent earthquake.

Last evening I attended an event with Rural Fair Share. The Rural Fair Share Group is a grouping of parliamentarians who have come together to argue for fairer funding for services across rural England.

I met with the CEO of South West Water on Thursday. We discussed the need to bring down people's water and waste-water charges further. I think this is realistic and is the right thing to do.
