A Statement from the Isles of Scilly Transport Board

As an island community, the Isles of Scilly’s transport links – both with the mainland and between the islands; for passengers and freight – are critical to our survival.

The Isles of Scilly Transport Board has now applied to government for support for the islands’ strategic transport infrastructure at this unprecedented time.

This call is being taken to the heart of government by Chair of the Board, Derek Thomas MP, who is working tirelessly to ensure the united voice of our island community is heard, and our exceptional situation understood, by the Secretary of State for Transport and The Treasury.

All members of the Transport Board are also working in close partnership to cooperate, communicate and consolidate their lifeline services as the number of travellers falls below economically viable levels.

Together, these measures will allow transport providers to maintain lifeline services, providing vital travel for islanders and essential workers to sustain our island community at this hugely challenging time.

The actions will also help ensure all elements of the transport system are available to resume normal service as soon as possible, which will be key to the revival of our island economy.

The Isles of Scilly Transport Board consists of The Council of the Isles of Scilly, Duchy of Cornwall, Islands’ Partnership, Tresco Estate, Isles of Scilly Steamship Group, Penzance Helicopters, Cornwall Council, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership, Lord Berkeley and Derek Thomas MP.
