The UK Government has now taken further messages to reduce the spread of coronavirus.
From tonight, people should not leave their homes other than for:
- shopping for basic necessities, as infrequently as possible
- one form of exercise a day - for example a run, walk, or cycle, alone or with members of their household;
- any medical need, to provide care or to help a vulnerable person;
- travelling to and from work, but only where it is absolutely necessary and cannot be done from home
Furthermore there should be no gatherings of more than two people – excluding people you live with. The Government will also close all shops selling non-essential goods, including clothing and electronic stores - as well as other premises like libraries, playgrounds and outdoor gyms, and places of worship. Social events, including weddings, baptisms and other ceremonies will be prohibited, the exception to this is funerals. These measures will be enforced by the police if necessary.
I know this will be a difficult time for many people and I urge anyone who is seeking greater clarity to check https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus or https://www.cornwall.gov.uk/health-and-social-care/public-health-cornwall/information-about-coronavirus-covid-19/. The end goal of all this is to support the NHS by slowing the spread of the disease, helping to reduce the amount of deaths and to give our hospitals a good chance of being able to deal with coronavirus without being overrun.
I will continue to post updates as and when they come though and however, if there is a specific issue you need help with, not covered by Government or local authority guidance you can continue get in contact with me by emailing derek.thomas.mp@parliament.uk.
