Delivering broadband across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly is one of the most significant infrastructure investment programmes for a generation.
I have been pushing to ensure BT and the Government delivers as promised and more quickly.
Broadband Delivery UK (Dept Culture, Media and Sport) has set out its programme to deliver superfast broadband (24Mbps+) for 95% of premises in the UK by 2017 and explore a near universal service by 2018.
In rural areas it is not possible to deliver a New Generation Access (NGA) fibre solution to every home. I have been exploring alternative methods and a solution is readily available through a satellite connection to individual properties (home or business) or by linking properties in larger communities through WiFi and providing a single high bandwidth satellite connection to the Internet.
The technology is ready and waiting but legislation prevents this until the fibre option is exhausted. I want BT to be clear about the 'not spots' so that the satellite solution can be implemented.
