I have met with the Deputy Managing Director and Regional Development Manager of First Great Western to pursue the idea of putting freight back on the rails from Penzance into the Centre of London.
On the existing trains (HST) there is space available to transport a limited amount of products including fresh food and drink and this service is to be trialed this Autumn. With the new trains less space is available and we need to look at the feasibility of a stand-alone freight service.
I have raised the freight on the rails idea with the Minister for Trains and with the Business Secretary. We have about two years to come up with a plan!
