What impact do you believe current immigration laws have had on Cornwall and do you believe Cornwall benefits from the UK being a member of the EU?”
We must be careful that we don't 'cut off our nose to spite our face' or 'bite the hand that feeds us'.
Our fishing, farming and tourism industries could not be sustained if we pulled the plug on the free movement of labour. Furthermore, the latest round of EU funding for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly amounts to 600m Euros. There are more than 101 things I would change about our relationship with the EU but we need to be careful what we wish for.
The Conservative Party is the only party that has promised an in/out referendum in 2017 if we secure an overall majority. Whatever the result, this referendum gives the opportunity for the British people to have a say on the future of our great nation.
The main priority for me is to work to increase the number of skilled, well paid jobs in West Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. To achieve this we need to be an attractive place to set up in business. If elected in May I will play my part and work hard to ensure that this EU money is used to secure a better future for us all.
