I facilitated a meeting with Fisheries Minister George Eustice, to discuss inshore fishing on the Isles of Scilly, to discuss some of the particular challenges on Scilly and to say a farewell to Steve Watt (Chief Fisheries Officer) before he retires this year (after over 20 years in the job).
Whilst the industry is quite small on the Isles of Scilly fishing it is a valuable source of income and contributes positively to achieving sustainable fish stocks. The Inshore Fisheries Authority manages fishing in 70% of the Marine Protected Area sites designated in English waters. The inshore fleet makes up 80% of our fishing industry.
With George Eustice MP,
Steve Watt, Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority
