West Cornwall MP has welcomed the decision of Cornwall Council's Strategic Planning Committee to approve planning permission for a heliport at Penzance.
"I believe this unanimous decision will prove a boon for many," said Mr Thomas."
Not only will Scillonians and their visitors enjoy a more convenient service to and from the islands but businesses both on the mainland and on Scilly will benefit from a longer tourism season.
"The decision was made after comprehensive studies into the impact of the proposed helicopter service for both people and the natural environment but I recognise that there has been a considerable amount of opposition to the scheme, with some genuine and valid concerns expressed.
"I am therefore glad that the planning approval comes with a number of conditions which seek to respond positively to the potential negative impact of a reinstated helicopter service to Scilly from Penzance."
