West Cornwall MP Derek Thomas has been elected on to the influential and powerful Health Select Committee in Westminster.
The cross-party committee, which comprises 11 MPs under the chairmanship of Dr Sarah Wollaston, MP for Totnes, examines the policy, administration and expenditure of the Department of Health and its associated bodies.
Although rarely used, the Committee has the power to insist upon the attendance of witnesses and the production of papers and other material.
“I am absolutely delighted to be elected to this committee,” said Mr Thomas.
“As I’ve consistently said since first being elected in 2015, I am determined to do what I can to ensure that the NHS works for one and all and that we properly integrate health and social care.
“In the NHS' 70th year this cross-party committee has real sway in defining Government policy and working on it will give me a much greater opportunity to find ways of bringing care closer to home and ensuring it has the money it needs.”
