Derek says a Big Thank You to St Ives volunteers

Dozens of unpaid volunteers from the St Ives area gathered at the town’s Salvation Army HQ for the third and final Big Thank You event organised by West Cornwall MP Derek Thomas.

Representatives from the local Samaritans, Memory Café, Carbis Bay Neighbourhood Watch, the National Coastwatch Institution, Riding for the Disabled, Steeple Woodlands Trust, U3A St Ives, Penhaligon’s Friends and the St Ives Sensory Garden were among those who enjoyed coffee, tea and cake as well as the chance to network with volunteers from other clubs.

Mr Thomas said: “There is no doubt that the lives of people who live in and around St Ives are immeasurably better off thanks to the selfless work of the army of volunteers who do so much to keep a wide range of clubs and vital community services alive.

“I think it is important that their dedication and commitment is acknowledged - it was a great pleasure to come to the Salvation Army to meet the volunteers and hear first hand exactly what they do and the sacrifices they make to ensure St Ives is such a special place.”
