We all want the best for West Cornwall and Scilly and I’ve drawn up a six-point plan to achieve this.
Better access to health and dental care:
Working with the NHS and providers of social care to ensure our health services including dental care are available close to our homes. I’m calling for a new approach to domiciliary care, valuing care staff with improved pay, working arrangements, job opportunities and training.
Securing investment for Penzance, St Ives and the Isles of Scilly
Investing in our local communities is essential. I’ve worked hard to help secure capital investment for Penzance, St Ives and Scilly. And I continue to work with Helston in our bid to secure funds. These investments help to revitalise towns, develop & create well paid jobs.
Food, fishing and farming
I believe food security deserves equal attention as energy security. This means that Government backs farmers and fishermen with good legislation, access to labour, funds and markets and enables them to compete fairly at home and abroad.
Addressing local housing
Working with the Council, builders & landlords to provide the homes we need and can afford. I'm working tirelessly to ensure we provide homes that people who live and work in West Cornwall want and need.
Stronger Communities
Working to protect post offices, banking services, schools, pubs and churches. I’m working to support local businesses, road safety improvements and safer towns and villages so, wherever you live you feel there's a vibrant future.
Better public transport
Working for the bus services we need, where and when they should run, and the A30 upgrade. As Chairman of the Rural Services Parliamentary Group I've worked to improve rural bus services and connect our towns and villages.
If we can demonstrate that local people back our plan, we’ll have a much stronger case to create new jobs, recruit more police officers, hire more GPs and dentists, more skills training, invest in our public transport and revise our high streets.
